OUR MISSION IS TO CURE BRAIN DISEASE

Robeauté was born from a deeply personal experience – one that is, tragically, far from rare. Bertrand Duplat, a pioneer in robotics, lost his mother to glioblastoma and was confronted with the limits of medicine. Together with Joana Cartocci, they set out to challenge those limits, pursuing an idea that, at the time, seemed closer science fiction than clinical reality: a microrobot capable of navigating within the human body, and particularly the brain.
Along the way, they gathered like-minded interdisciplinary experts and builders, united by a shared conviction and a relentless pursuit to rethink how we access, understand, and treat disease for neurological conditions that affect one in three people worldwide.
Since 2017, Robeauté has raised more than €40 million in equity and non-dilutive funding from leading investors and stands on the shoulders of scientific and medical giants across Europe and the US, scaling with speed and global ambition.
This is no longer science-fiction.
2017
Veteran roboticist and engineer Bertrand Duplat joins forces with deeptech leader Joana Cartocci to develop a proof of concept for a microrobot that can meaningfully diagnose and treat neurological conditions and navigate complex brain structures. Our first office is in historic AP-HP Hôtel-Dieu, the oldest hospital in France, in the heart of Paris.
2018
Inception of our world-class Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of 50+ neurosurgeons from 6 of the 11 best neurosurgical hospitals in the world and 60+ strategic advisors whose expertise define surgical robotics and business.
2020
We carry out the first end-to-end fabrication and integration of all miniature core building blocks of the proprietary, co-developed machines and components.
2022
We celebrate closing of Robeauté’s first VC-led Seed funding round of $3.2 million.
2024
As founding member, we launch Brain Gardeners’ Club – a grass-roots movement bringing together leading minds at the forefront of advancing the understanding of the brain and of novel solutions to neuropathologies.
2025
We secure $28 million in a Series A funding round led by Plural, Cherry Ventures, Kindred Ventures and medical technology company Brainlab to accelerate the development of our transformational technology.
2026
Amid strong preclinical results and ongoing engagement with FDA and European regulators, our first international office outside of Paris opens in San Francisco, California, ahead of first-in-human studies.
2017
We begin developing the first proof of concept for our microrobot: taking inspiration from how bacteria moves at the smallest scales, miniaturising heartbeat to power the tiny motor and even borrowing from the foundational structure of a rocket. Bertrand Duplat is cofounder and CEO of Robeauté, where he spearheads the development of our groundbreaking medical microrobot, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in neurosurgery. He brings over 30 years of expertise in robotics and 3D technologies as a seasoned serial entrepreneur, inventor, and innovator. An expert robotics engineer, he specializes in designing complex systems for extreme environments, including space, energy, and undersea applications. Bertrand has led two startups to successful exits, including Virtools, acquired by Dassault Systèmes. Holding 40 patents, his early research at McGill University sparked his passion for haptics and robotics.

Joana Cartocci is an experienced operations and deeptech leader with a multidisciplinary background in international relations, linguistics and global project coordination. With well over a decade in operations and fluency in six languages, she has helped drive technological innovation across healthcare, environmental sciences, and innovation ecosystems. She has also served on the board of FranceBiotech, France’s leading independent healthcare association. In parallel, Joana is an angel investor in Femtech and Deeptech, backing founders who are reshaping the future of health and innovation. Passionate about impact-driven technology, she is committed to building inclusive, forward-thinking communities in Medtech and Femtech.
